चौरचन या चौथचंद्र भारत के मिथिलांचल का एक महत्वपूर्ण त्यौहार है और यह पड़ोसी नेपाल में भी उतना ही महत्व रखता है। इन क्षेत्रों में अलग-अलग बोलियों के कारण इस त्यौहार को कई नामों से जाना जाता है जैसे कि चौरचन पूजा, चौथ चांद और चारचन्ना पाबनी। नामकरण की गहरी समझ से पता चलता है कि ‘चौथ’ महीने की चौथी तिथि को दर्शाता है और चंद्रमा दर्शाता है।
चौरचन का धार्मिक महत्व चंद्र देव (चंद्रमा देवता) और भगवान गणेश से जुड़ा है। यह वही तिथि है जब पूरा पश्चिमी भारत गणेश चतुर्थी मनाता है।
2024 चौरचन का शुभ दिन और समय
इस वर्ष चौरचन की तिथि 6 सितंबर है। लोकाचार के अनुसार सही तिथि भाद्रपद शुक्लपक्ष की चतुर्थी तिथि होगी जो 6 सितंबर दोपहर 03:01 बजे से शुरू होकर 7 सितंबर शाम 05:37 बजे तक रहेगी।
चौरचन का महत्व
चौरचन के पीछे की कहानी भगवान गणेश और चंद्र देव (चंद्रमा देवता) के इर्द-गिर्द घूमती है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि एक दिन भगवान गणेश कैलाश में घूम रहे थे, तभी उन्हें अचानक हंसी की आवाज़ सुनाई दी। उत्सुक भगवान गणेश ने स्रोत की खोज की और पाया कि चंद्र देव उन पर हंस रहे थे। कारण पूछने पर चंद्र देव ने उत्तर दिया कि वे भगवान गणेश के विचित्र रूप को देखकर हंस रहे थे। प्रसंगवश यह उल्लेख करना महत्वपूर्ण है कि चंद्र देव को अपने आकर्षक रूप पर बहुत गर्व था। चंद्र देव के इस अपमानजनक व्यवहार से क्रोधित होकर भगवान गणेश ने तुरंत उन्हें कुरूप होने का श्राप दे दिया और यह भी कहा कि जो कोई भी चंद्र को देखेगा, उस पर मिथ्या कलंक लगेगा। शाप लगने पर चंद्र देव को एहसास हुआ कि उन्होंने भगवान गणेश के साथ अन्याय किया है और उन्होंने भगवान गणेश से दया मांगी। उन्होंने श्राप हटाने के लिए भगवान गणेश से विनती की। चंद्र देव को पश्चाताप करते देख भगवान गणेश ने उन्हें क्षमा कर दिया, लेकिन साथ ही यह भी कहा कि चतुर्थी (भगवान गणेश का जन्मदिन) के दिन अगर कोई भी चंद्रमा को देखेगा तो उस पर मिथ्या कलंक लगेगा। इस प्रभाव को दूर करने के लिए हाथ में फल लेकर चंद्रमा को देखना चाहिए और निम्न श्लोक का उच्चारण करना चाहिए:
सिंहः प्रसेनमवधीस्सिंहो जाम्बवता हतः
सुकुमार मन्दिसत्व ह्येष स्यामन्तकः स्त
कहते हैं कि द्वापर युग में भगवान कृष्ण को भी स्यामन्तक मणि की मिथ्या प्राप्ति का दोष लगता है, क्योंकि उन्होंने भाद्रपद शुक्ल पक्ष की तिथि को चन्द्रमा को देखा था।
चौरचन पूजा विधि (पूजा की विधि)
- इस दिन सुबह जल्दी उठकर स्नान करें और व्रत का संकल्प लें।
- फिर शाम को घर के आंगन को गाय के गोबर से लीपें या अच्छी तरह साफ करें।
- इसके बाद कच्चे चावल पीसकर घर के आंगन में रंगोली बनाएं।
- फिर केले के पत्तों की मदद से गोलाकार चंद्रमा बनाएं।
- इसके बाद विभिन्न प्रकार के मीठे व्यंजन बनाकर भगवान को भोग लगाएं।
- फिर चंद्रमा की पूजा की जाती है।
- इस दिन की पूजा में दही का इस्तेमाल जरूर किया जाता है।
- इसके अलावा इस दिन बांस के बर्तनों में एक खास तरह की खीर बनाई जाती है। इस खीर का भोग चंद्रदेव को लगाया जाता है।
Chaurchan Puja
Chaurchan or Chauthchandra is an important festival of Mithilanchal of India and it bears equal importance in adjacent Nepal. Owing to different dialects in these regions the festival is known by several names such as Chorchan Puja, Chauth Chand, and Charchanna Pabni. A deep understanding of the nomenclature reveals that ‘Chauth’ stands for the fourth tithi of the month and Chandrama stands for the Moon.
The religious importance of Chaurchan is associated with Chandra Dev (the moon god) and Lord Ganesha. It is the same tithi when the entire Western India celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi.
Auspicious Day and Time of Chaurchan 2024
This year the date for Chaurchan is 6th of September. As per the ethology the exact tithi will be chaturthi titrhi of bhadrapada shuklapaksha starting from 6th September 03:01 PM to 05:37 PM of 7th September.
Significance of Chaurchan
The story behind Chaurchan revolves around Lord Ganesha and Chandra Dev (the moon god). It is said that one day Lord Ganesha was roaming in Kailash when he suddenly heard a sound of laughing. Curious Lord Ganesha searched for the source and found that Chandra Dev was laughing at him. Upon being asked for a reason Chandra Dev replied that he was laughing looking at the strange form of Lord Ganesha. Contextually significant to mention that Chandra Deva was very proud of his attractive look. Furious at this insulting behavior by Chandra Dev, Lord Ganesha immediately cursed him to become ugly and also mentioned that anyone who looked at Chandra would be accused of false stigma. Upon Cursed Chandra Dev realized that he wronged Lord Ganesha and asked for his mercy. He pleaded with Lord Ganesha to lift the curse. Seeing Chandra Dev repenting, Lord Ganesha forgave him but added that on the day of Chaturthi (the birthday of Lord Ganesh) if anyone would see the moon on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi will face false stigma. To ward off this effect one has to look at the Chandrama with fruit in hand reciting the following sloka:
सिंहः प्रसेनमवधिस्सिंहो जाम्बवता हतः
सुकुमार मन्दिस्तव ह्येष स्यामन्तकः स्त
It is said that in Dvapara Yuga, Lord Krishna also gets blamed for the false acquisition of the Syamantak gem because he looked at Chandra on the tithi of Bhadrapada Shukla paksha.
Chaurchan Puja Vidhi (Method of Worship)
- On this day, wake up early in the morning, take a bath and resolve to fast.
- Then in the evening, cover the courtyard of the house with cow dung or clean it thoroughly.
- After this, grind raw rice and make rangoli in the courtyard of the house.
- Then make a circular moon with the help of banana leaves.
- After this, prepare different types of sweet dishes and offer them to God.
- Then the moon is worshiped.
- Curd is definitely used in the worship of this day.
- Apart from this, a special kind of kheer is prepared in bamboo utensils on this day. This kheer is offered to Chandradev.
